Pupil Premium

​The pupil premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to close the gaps between them and their peers.

In the 2023 to 2024 financial year, the school received:

£1035 for each pupil registered as eligible for free school meals (FSM) at any point in the last 6 years:

£2,530 for any pupil identified in the January 2023 school census or the alternative provision census as having left local-authority care as a result of one of the following;
  • adoption
  • a special guardianship order
  • a child arrangements order (previously known as a residence order)
  • who has been in local-authority care for 1 day or more
  • recorded as both eligible for FSM in the last 6 years and as being looked after (or as having left local-authority care)

​Service Pupil Premium

The Department for Education introduced the Service Pupil Premium (SPP) in April 2011 in recognition of the specific challenges faced by children from service families and as part of the commitment to delivering the armed forces covenant.
State schools, academies and free schools in England, which have children of service families in school years Reception to Year 11, can receive the SPP funding. It is designed to assist the school in providing the additional support that these children may need and is currently worth £335 per service child who meets the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility criteria for SPP

Pupils attract the SPP if they meet the following criteria:
  • one of their parents is serving in the regular armed forces
  • they have been registered as a ‘service child’ in the school census at any point since 2011.
  • one of their parents died whilst serving in the armed forces and the pupil receives a pension under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme or the War Pensions Scheme

PUPIL PREMIUM FUNDING

The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address underlying inequalities between these and their wealthier peers, by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.
At Ash Manor School we have used the additional funding provided through the Pupil Premium scheme [PP] in a variety of ways, with groups of targeted students to ensure that those supported by the grant are making accelerated progress and that gaps in students’ progress and attainment are closing.  Whilst many of the activities are targeted specifically towards students who are entitled to PP, Ash Manor School operates an open-access policy wherever possible.

Proposed Spending Plan  

At Ash Manor School, we have decided that we want to spend the majority of the PP funding on items and activities that will have maximum benefit for all of our students while also supporting our more vulnerable children. We know that some of our students have found it hard to cope without teacher support since returning to full-time, in-school learning following the pandemic. There has been a noticeable increase in social and emotional aspects of learning / behaviour, with increased support needed to manage anxiety and confidence to attend on a regular basis. We have therefore decided to invest a substantial amount into pastoral measures, such as professional therapy, counselling and mentoring.
We want to respect this funding as a unique opportunity to build sustainable resources and to increase capacity to support our students. We want the funding to leave a footprint and are intending for these resources and activities to improve students’ confidence, independence and ultimately outcomes within this academic year and beyond.
