The Governing Body
Role of the Governors
The Board of Governors are responsible for the overall management of the school, in much the same way that a board of directors is responsible for the overall management of a company.
The Governors do not run the school on a day to day basis – that is the responsibility of the Headteacher and the Leadership Team – but rather concentrate on the strategic direction of the school, ensuring that appropriate policies and procedures are in place to ensure the school is well run and meets its numerous statutory obligations, to set the strategic plan and monitor the school’s performance against this, and to provide support and advice to the Headteacher and Leadership Team. The Governors play a strategic role in making decisions and taking action to improve the standards of teaching and learning of the students at the school in a safe and pleasant environment The Governors are not expected to be experts in the running of a school, but rather are unpaid volunteers who give their time and knowledge to help ensure Ash Manor School is well run and able to meet is objective of allowing students to “Aspire and Achieve”. Indeed school governors form the largest voluntary organisation in the country.
